Areca palm (Dypsis lutescens)

The Areca palm, also known as the golden cane palm, is a popular houseplant with long, elegant leaves that bring a tropical feel to your home. This plant is known for its fresh appearance and is relatively easy to care for, making it suitable for beginners.

Care

Watering

The water requirement is average. Keep the soil lightly moist, but not wet. Let the top layer of the soil dry out slightly before watering again. Too much water can cause root rot.

Light requirement

The Areca palm loves plenty of indirect light. Place it in a bright spot, for example near a window, but avoid harsh direct sunlight. In too little light, the plant will grow slower and the leaves may become duller.

Humidity & Temperature

The Areca palm prefers medium to high humidity. Regular light misting can help keep the leaves looking good. The ideal temperature is between 18 and 27°C. Avoid drafts and cold spots.

Nutrition

In spring and summer, feed your plants once every 2 to 4 weeks. In autumn and winter, extra feeding is usually not necessary.

Soil & repotting

Use an airy, well-draining potting mix. Repot the plant only when it visibly outgrows its pot or when the roots have little space. Choose a pot with drainage holes so that excess water can drain away easily.
