Plant care guide – Beaucarnea Recurvata (Ponytail Palm)

The elephant's foot, officially Beaucarnea Recurvata, is a unique houseplant with a thickened trunk and long, gracefully drooping leaves. The trunk stores water, allowing this plant to withstand dry periods well and require little care.

Care

Watering

Water requirements are low. Let the soil dry out completely before watering again. It's better to underwater than overwater, as the trunk stores moisture.

Light requirement

The ponytail palm loves a spot with plenty of light. It grows best in a bright location with indirect sunlight, but can also tolerate some direct sunlight.

Humidity & Temperature

The ponytail palm likes average humidity and a temperature between 18 and 27°C. Normal room air is usually fine.

Nutrition

During spring and summer, provide plant food approximately once a month. In autumn and winter, feeding is usually not necessary.

Soil & repotting

Use a well-draining potting mix, preferably mixed with some sand or perlite. Only repot the plant when it truly outgrows its pot.
