Plant Care Guide - Kentia Palm (Howea forsteriana)

The Kentia palm is an elegant and calm houseplant with long, graceful leaves. Its timeless appearance allows it to fit into almost any interior. This palm grows slowly and is known as a strong plant that makes few demands.

The Kentia palm originally comes from Lord Howe Island in Australia, where it grows in warm and sheltered conditions. This allows it to adapt well indoors.

Care

Watering

The water requirement is average. Let the top layer of the soil dry out slightly before watering again. The soil should remain slightly moist, but not wet.

Light requirement

The Kentia palm thrives in partial shade to indirect light. It tolerates lower light conditions better than many other palms, but grows best in a bright spot without direct sunlight.

Humidity & Temperature

The Kentia palm likes average humidity and a temperature between 18 and 25°C, and can handle normal indoor air well.

Nutrition

In spring and summer, feed your plants once a month. In autumn and winter, feeding is usually not necessary.

Soil & repotting

Use an airy, well-draining potting mix. Repot the plant only when it visibly outgrows its pot or when the roots have little space. Choose a pot with drainage holes so that excess water can drain away easily.
