Plant Care Guide – Pilea Peperomioides (Chinese Money Plant)

The Pilea Peperomioides, better known as the pancake plant, is a popular houseplant with round, fresh green leaves. Its playful appearance and easy care make this plant ideal for both beginners and experienced plant lovers.

Originally from China, the Pilea is also known as the Chinese money plant. The plant grows compactly and regularly produces new shoots, making it easy to propagate.

Care

Watering

The water requirement is average. Let the top layer of the soil dry out slightly before watering again. It's better to underwater than to overwater.

Light requirement

The Pilea likes a spot with plenty of indirect light. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, as this can damage the leaves. Rotate the plant occasionally to ensure it grows straight.

Humidity & Temperature

The Pilea likes an average humidity and a temperature between 15 and 25°C. Normal room air is usually sufficient.

Nutrition

During spring and summer, provide plant food approximately once a month. In autumn and winter, the plant requires little extra nutrition.

Soil & repotting

Use an airy, well-draining potting mix. Repot the plant only when it visibly outgrows its pot or when the roots have little space. Choose a pot with drainage holes so that excess water can drain away easily.
