Plant Care Guide - Nephrolepsis exaltata Green Lady

The Nephrolepis exaltata ‘Green Lady’, better known as the Boston fern, is an elegant houseplant with fresh green, slightly curled leaves. Thanks to its full and airy shape, this plant immediately brings life to your interior. It is especially popular in hanging baskets or on a high cabinet, where the leaves can gracefully grow downwards. With proper care, this fern will remain healthy and decorative for a long time.

Care

Watering

This plant needs a fair amount of water. Keep the soil slightly moist, especially in spring and summer when it's actively growing. Typically, water 1 to 2 times a week, but always check the top layer of the soil first. Let it dry out slightly before watering again. Be careful not to let water sit in the bottom of the pot, as this can cause root rot.

Light requirement

The Boston fern grows best in a spot with plenty of indirect light, but can also thrive in partial shade. Avoid bright direct sunlight, as this can dry out or scorch the leaves. In a spot that is too dark, the plant will become less full and grow more slowly.

Humidity & Temperature

This plant likes high humidity, which makes it perfect for rooms like the bathroom. In dry air, the leaf tips may turn brown. Regular misting helps to keep the plant looking good. The ideal temperature is between 18 and 24°C. Avoid drafts and sudden temperature changes.

Nutrition

During the growing season (spring and summer), you can give the plant some plant food once every 2 to 4 weeks. This helps with full and healthy growth. In autumn and winter, extra feeding is usually not necessary.

Soil & repotting

Use an airy, humus-rich potting soil that retains moisture well but doesn't stay too wet. Repot the plant only when it visibly outgrows its pot or absorbs water less effectively. Choose a pot with drainage holes so that excess water can drain properly.
